STATEMENT FOR SMALL BUSINESS AWARDS JUDGES ON CONFLICT OF INTEREST, CONFIDENTIALITY, AND DATA PROTECTION

As esteemed judges of the Small Business Awards program, we are entrusted with the responsibility of evaluating and recognizing outstanding achievements in the business community. To maintain a high standard of professionalism, fairness, and integrity, we commit to adhere to the guidelines regarding conflict of interest, confidentiality, and data protection. 


Conflict of Interest:

As judges, it is our duty to ensure a fair and unbiased evaluation process. We acknowledge that conflicts of interest can compromise the integrity of our judgments. Therefore, we commit to identifying and managing any potential conflicts that may arise. If we become aware of any personal or professional relationships that could influence our impartiality, we will promptly disclose such conflicts to the office of the CEO. In doing so, we will act with transparency and fairness, avoiding any bias that may impact the evaluation of entries.


Areas of Conflict of Interest

Below are the circumstances in which a conflict of interest might exist: 

  • Direct benefit in case of acceptance of the applicants' submission

  • Close family or personal relationship with the applicant

  • Director, trustee or partner of a participating applicant

  • Current employment by the applicant

  • Current involvement in a contract or collaboration with the applicant

  • Any other situation that compromises your ability to evaluate the application impartially.


Confidentiality:

We understand the significance of maintaining strict confidentiality throughout the judging process. All information provided by entrants, including proprietary data, trade secrets, and sensitive business details, must be treated with the utmost care and discretion. We commit to keep all submitted materials confidential and will not disclose or discuss any confidential information outside the confines of the judging panel. This commitment to confidentiality ensures the integrity and competitiveness of the awards program and safeguards the trust placed in us by the participants.


The judges will maintain the confidentiality of any confidential information disclosed by Biashara Africa during the awards process, including any trade secrets or proprietary information related to intellectual property.  Biashara Africa will retain ownership of any pre-existing intellectual property brought into the awards process.


Data Protection:

We are committed to upholding the highest standards of data protection and privacy. Any personal and business information shared by entrants will be handled in compliance with applicable data protection laws and regulations. We will not share, distribute, or misuse any personal data provided by participants and will take all necessary measures to protect it from unauthorized access, loss, or disclosure.
